BC Poll Report on Mining Reform

StratCom conducted a syndicated poll from November 23 through December 1, and the International Boreal Conservation Campaign.
Key findings include:

  • There is overwhelming agreement (83%) that BC’s mining and tailing standards should be brought in-line with or exceed other jurisdictions such as Ontario, Quebec, Yukon and NWT.

  • There is overwhelming agreement (86%) that BC should adopt increased standards to address tailings dam safety even though it could reduce competitiveness in the global marketplace as it could make certain mines not viable since it will cost too much to dig up the minerals and process them.

  • A majority (72%) think that minerals mined in BC should have stricter environmental regulations.
