Wetlands of the Boreal Forest
The boreal may be full of trees…but it’s also a forest of blue. With a vast number of bogs, fens and other wetland habitats, the Boreal Forest contains 25% of wetlands worldwide. These wetlands not only provide habitat and clean water, they also store carbon – about 12% of the world’s land based carbon. Keeping these wetlands healthy & intact means we keep those carbon stores in the ground and allow them to keep accumulating carbon into the future, which ultimately helps fight climate change.
