Partnering to Protect the Seal River Watershed
The Sayisi Dene First Nation knows there is an incredible abundance and diversity of birds found in the Seal River Watershed. So when the Audubon Society approached the Seal River Watershed Alliance about a partnership to monitor bird species in 2020, it was an opportunity to work in collaboration and gather information that will protect the watershed not only for the birds, but for future generations. As Stephanie Thorassie explains, “utilizing Indigenous knowledge but also western science – it gives us the ability to have two feet planted in the world.”
